More people than ever in Wales are now poised to save lives in Wales in Ceredigion with over 2,000 people and 100 defibrillators placed In Wales, and counting

This additional life-saving support is thanks to a successful two year fundraising appeal by Wales’ heart charity, British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru.

BHF Cymru’s No Time To Wait appeal has reached its target, raising over £250,000, these funds will help to ensure that more people than ever are now trained in how to save a life across Wales.

BHF Cymru’s No Time to Wait Appeal has helped to fund, two Clinical Support Officers within the Welsh Ambulance Service, helping to map and place defibrillators, deliver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) training and working to develop a strategy to help improve out of hospital cardiac arrest survival in Wales, which is known to be low.

Luke Mallett, Head of Community Fundraising for BHF Cymru said: “The appeal has been extremely successful and we would like to express our sincere appreciation to local supporters and volunteers across Wales for their enthusiasm and dedication in achieving this outstanding accomplishment. Less than one in ten people that suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital live long enough to leave hospital alive. But many people could be saved if more people were trained to deliver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR at the scene and defibrillators available for use in public places.

We are delighted to have partnered with key organisations in Wales to give this appeal such a massive boost, such as the Principality Building Society, South Wales Police, Coleg Cambria, South Hook LNG in Pembrokeshire, and the Young Farmers Clubs in Wales. I would also like to thank our local BHF Fundraising branches Aberystwyth, Lampeter/Llanybydder and Cardigan and to all the local supporters and volunteers in the area who have contributed to make several defibrillator available in a location where its use could really make a life-saving difference to someone having a cardiac arrest. ”
