When Mencap Ceredigion read a letter in the Tivy-Side that an advocacy group had to stop its weekly drop in at Small World Theatre due to funding, it decided to go into action.

Paul Manning Chairman of Mencap Ceredigion said: “We read the letter from one of the members and decided that we could support this group with our members and volunteers, and with the kind generosity of the Newlife Church at Quay Street, Cardigan we have now opened the doors to a weekly drop in.

“We are also very pleased that Rebecca who was running the previous group has agreed to volunteer her time to carry on with her good work along with Sian Maehlein from Cardigan and Mencap Ceredigion member Bethan Kench.”

Ange Gee, President of Mencap Ceredigion, added: “With so many organisations and services now closing due to cuts, small local voluntary organisation similar to Mencap Ceredigion will need to consider filling in these gaps, and with the support of our members and volunteers we have plans to do so.”

The drop-in will be a place for local people with learning disabilities to socialise, make new friends and meet their old ones.

The group will meet every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at Newlife Church, and a programme of activities is being put together.
