Work has started on Ceredigion's superfast broadband programme - but some county councillors are impatient at the progress.

The county has suffered from having one of the worst broadband services in the UK, but work on the middle of the county, including Cardigan, Aberporth and the Teifi Valley is due to start by Christmas.

But Cllr John Lumley told this week's Cabinet meeting: "I'm very disappointed. We were given promises but they haven't stuck to them."

Leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn said: "It's true to say that things have dragged."

But Mike Shaw, the county officer dealing with the broadband roll-out, said engineers had to overcome a wide range of difficulties.

He added: "However Ceredigion as a county is going to have a complete service - Carmarthenshire for example will still have holes."

He said that engineers were pulling out the stops to get the work finished.

"I have been very impressed considering the amount of work they have to do," he said.
