Ceredigion councillors have called for more investment into railway services in the north of the county.
A motion at this week's full council calling for a transportation hub around a re-instated Bow Street station to reduce the amount of freight carried by lorries on the A487 was backed unanimously.
The council will now lobby the Welsh Assembly for improvements.
Cllr Mark String said it was essential for heavy freight to be transported by rail rather than "hammering our villages along the A487".
And Cabinet member Cllr Alun Williams said: "There are economic and environmental benefits in opening Bow Street station. These are exciting times for rail and we need to work on a new business case to present to ministers."
