Two groups in Newcastle Emlyn have received donations from Member of Parliament, Jonathan Edwards to help towards their activities.

Newcastle Emlyn Ladies Football Club and Pwyllgor Henoed Castellnewydd Emlyn (Senior Citizens Committee) were awarded small cheques from the Plaid Cymru MP as a result of him being awarded payments for completing a series of political surveys.

Politicians often receive cheques of £50 or £75 for their time in taking part on political surveys from different polling agencies. MP Jonathan Edwards and Assembly Member Rhodri Glyn Thomas always donate their cheques to different charities and organisations throughout their Carmarthen East and Dinefwr constituency. On this occasion, two groups in the Teifi Valley were recipients of their donation.

Jonathan Edwards MP said:

“Many groups in our community depend on the tireless efforts and goodwill of volunteers.

“In many instances, groups are dependent on raffles and local fundraising to help support their activities.

“By spending around 15 minutes taking part in a political survey politicians are paid around £50-75. Sometimes this has been up to £150.

“Rhodri Glyn Thomas and I always donate these cheques to local organisations and charities as a small gesture of our recognition for their great work in the community.”
