Cardigan Foodbank has launched its Heat & Eat campaign to help local people who may have to choose between heating their home and putting food on their table.

Manager Phil Buckman said: "We know that there are many people out there, families, singles, young and old who currently struggle to make ends meet but unfortunately are not able to gain any further financial help. Because of this they are not able to claim a food voucher and therefore unable to gain one of our emergency food parcels. It becomes even harder for them during the winter when the temperature drops. They then have to decide whether they use the little money they have to put meals on the table or pay for fuel to keep themselves warm. Usually they can't do both."

Cardigan Foodbank wants to go beyond the normal voucher system and try and help those that are living on the bread line but are not able to claim a food voucher.

Last year saw the launch of the Heat & Eat Campaign and through many good willed people several others were referred to the foodbank who were able to give them a hearty food parcel, helping them save some money on their shopping and allowing them to use it for electricity, coal or gas.

Unfortunately these people rarely come forward themselves, for all sorts of reasons, so the appeal is aimed at anyone who may know of somebody, an elderly neighbour, a young family, anyone they are aware of who are struggling.

"As long as the person is not already being serviced by Cardigan Foodbank via the voucher scheme we will be very pleased to help them", Phil said. "We do not want to see anyone struggle in keeping warm this winter and putting food on the table".
