A Llandysul man appeared at Swansea crown court on Friday to admit inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Matthew Baden Vaux, aged 21, appeared before Judge Keith Thomas for a plea and directions hearing.

Vaux, of Flat 1, Drefach farm, Cross Inn, admitted attacking John Ryan Jones on March 28 this year and causing gbh.

Vaux denied an alternative, more serious charge of inflicting gbh with intent.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said that on reflection the pleas were acceptable and the Crown Prosecution Service would not press for a trial on the more serious charge.

Mr Jones, he said, had no memory of the attack.

Judge Thomas said he noticed the case was being presented as an unprovoked attack while Vaux's defence team wanted to argue there had been provocation.

Judge Thomas said he would sentence Vaux, a hotel worker, after a probation officer had prepared a report into his background.

Vaux's barrister, Dyfed Thomas, said he understood that a jail sentence could be the outcome.

Vaux was granted bail until the sentencing hearing.
