A Llechryd father-of-two has got his ‘life back on track’ after admitting possession of a Class B drug, a court has heard.

Gavin John Griffiths, aged 26, gave his address as c/o 16 Glannant, Llechryd, when he appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to possession of three grams of cannabis in Cardigan on November 14.

The court heard that police noticed a strong smell of cannabis when they called at the defendant’s address as part of house to house enquires, and he handed over cannabis valued at approximately £30.

Alan Lewis, defending, said his client had immediately produced the drug for the officers, had cooperated fully and made a full admission in interview.

He said: “Back in November he was homeless and took cannabis to deal with anxiety. He has been given permanent accommodation which he will move in to in the next couple of weeks.

“His life has stabilised and is now back on track. He has two young children and realises he has to keep out of trouble. Hopefully this was just a glitch.”

He added that Griffiths had not used cannabis since this incident.

Griffiths was given a nine month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A destruction order was made for the seized drugs.
