Three young disabled athletes from Ceredigion help the Welsh team at Athletic Championships.

The Welsh team successfully won medals and awards at the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships.

Over 240 of the country’s finest young disabled athletes took part in this weekend’s event in Coventry.

The 10 Junior Academy athletes, supported by General Dynamics UK, came back with a shed load of medals, 23 Gold, five Silver and one Bronze.

The athletes also produced 27 personal best performances, which equates to 93% overall.

Additionally Megan Ashman, from Cardigan Primary School, picked up the Outstanding Female Award, after her gold winning performances in 100m, shot and discus. Megan competed in the T/F44 classes.

Kimberley Mellor who attends Cardigan Secondary School came back with all three colours, a Gold in the Discus, Silver in the Shot Putt and Bronze for 100m sprint.

Caitlin Williams also a pupil at Cardigan Secondary School scored personal bests and came home with a Gold in 60metres, Silver in the 100m and Silver in the Shot Putt.

Many elite disabled athletes began their own success at this prestigious event, including Aled Davies, Rhys Jones and Hollie Arnold.

Amongst the competitors in Coventry were those hopeful for the same golden career in athletics. The Championships at the University of Warwick’s athletics track was organised by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS).

Nathan Stephens Paralympian and World Record Holder also Talent Officer for Disability Sport Wales said: "There were 27 personal bests and 100% smiles all round. A huge thank you to all parents for their support. Additionally many thanks for the staff that supported myself and the athletes over the weekend, a great team. But my biggest thanks goes to all the athletes for being brilliant ambassadors for Disability Sport Wales and giving 100% in everything they did."
