A LLANDYSUL cheese producer has swept the board at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.

Caws Teifi Cheese, of Glynhynod Farm, has won five Gold awards, including Best Welsh Cheese and Supreme Champion Cheese.

“If the moon is made of cheese, then I can say that we are absolutely over the moon, because this has been the best year ever,” said John Savage-Onstwedder of Caws Teifi Cheese.

“To win five Golds, Best Welsh Cheese and overall Supreme Champion in one year at the Royal Welsh Show is something the whole of Wales can be proud of.

“This result, once again, confirms that Caws Teifi Cheese is the most highly awarded artisan raw milk cheese in the UK.

“It is a testament to the expertise and dedication of the whole team here at Caws Teifi Cheese, and not in the least Mr and Mrs Williams of Cilcert Farm, who produce the milk that makes the cheese. To make a cheese of such quality, excellent milk is a pre-requisite. “Therefore, credit should also go to Llaeth Cymraeg who supplies the fresh milk every day we make cheese.”

Caws Teifi Cheese won the Golds for Teifi Natural, Teifi Mature, Gwyn Bach, Teifi Oak-smoked Caerphilly and Celtic Promise.

In May Caws Teifi Cheese smashed its own record at the British Cheese Awards ceremony - the annual Oscars of the cheese world – by winning the Best Welsh Cheese for a record sixth time with their most renowned cheese, Celtic Promise.
