Ceredigion Welsh Liberal Democrat MP, Mark Williams, has supported the launch of Paul’s Pledge in Ceredigion and called for people to take the pledge to never condone or commit violence.

Paul’s Pledge was launched in Ceredigion earlier this month at Aberystwyth University as part of a campaign throughout the entire Dyfed-Powys Police force area to tackle the problem of alcohol-fuelled violence.

Paul Pugh was left close to death and in a coma for two months following an unprovoked attack outside a pub in 2007. Since then, he has been using his experience to campaign against alcohol-fuelled violence, through schools, colleges and youth clubs.

Mark has tabled a motion in Parliament, praising Paul’s campaign and encouraging more young people to take Paul’s Pledge.

Mark Williams said: “Nobody should have to go through what Paul has been through. However, Paul’s bravery and dedication to tackling the problem of alcohol-fuelled violence by sharing his experiences will help bring this issue to the forefront. It is absolutely vital that we work to educate to prevent violence, not simply deal with the consequences, and Paul’s campaign is a fantastic way to tackle this problem.

“I encourage all people to watch Paul’s documentary, to help understand the serious problem of alcohol-fuelled violence, and especially encourage young people to take Paul’s Pledge and vow to never condone violent behaviour, to walk away from aggression and violence and encourage friends and family to do the same.”
