A specialist healthcare company who employs more 120 people at their facility near Newcastle Emlyn is raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

BTG, the specialist healthcare company, is stepping up to the Trekfest Challenge in the Peak District National Park on 5 and 6 September for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

There are 42 participants taking part from BTG’s UK sites in Farnham, Camberley, London and Wales, with the aim to complete either 54 miles in 24 hours, 27 miles in 12 hours or 13 miles in 6 hours.

There have been a number of training walks in preparation for the big weekend to wear in the walking boots and get the fundraising underway.

The Preseli Mountains and National Coastal Path have served as beautiful yet challenging training grounds for several of the walkers taking part from the Welsh site near Newcastle Emlyn.

Amanda Heaton, Community & Corporate Fundraising Manager at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, said: "We are delighted that the staff from BTG will be putting their best foot forward to take part in Trekfest 2015. We know that this will be a tough challenge and would like to thank all those involved for not only giving up their time to train and take part but for raising funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity."

Some of this year’s BTG Trekfesters felt compelled to attempt Trekfest ‘The Peaks’ Challenge after successfully completing ‘The Beacons’ last year, while first timers to the event look forward to beating the clock and taking in the spectacular scenery of The Pennine Way.

There are four BTG employees committed to completing the 54-mile route and a number of friends and family have been persuaded to take part to show their support.

Dame Louise Makin, CEO of BTG, added: “It is great to see so many of our employees from all of our UK sites, challenging themselves and coming together in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The charity resonates with us as it all about making a difference to patients’ quality of life through innovation and research, which is what we set out to do as a healthcare company.”

BTG markets innovative products in specialist areas of medicine, including several products designed to advance the treatment of liver tumours.

The company is hoping to raise a substantial amount of money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
