Catering students from Coleg Ceredigion’s Aberystwyth campus recently came first in a professional cookery competition at an annual festival held in mid Wales.

The Chefs’ Challenge, held at the annual Llandovery Sheep Festival in association with the Cambrian Mountains Trust, featured young chefs competing against rival colleges to create various dishes in front of an audience. In the competition, level 1 students had to prepare and cook breakfast, while level 2 and 3 students had to prepare a main meal and dessert.

Pitting their skills and knowledge against students from other colleges, the Coleg Ceredigion students showed their mettle and were presented with first prize by the Mayor of Llandovery, Councillor Dorothy Burgess.

James Ward, Professional Cookery lecturer at Coleg Ceredigion, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the students and a great opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have gained while at Coleg Ceredigion. Congratulations to all the students involved.”
