Officers from Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the Cardigan area have been working with local schools recently to support the GoSafe campaign.
The campaign aims to highlight the importance of 20mph limits outside schools.
Ysgol Cilgerran School Council members joined forces with PCSOs Gethin Lewis and Ben Cole, and PCs Nicola Wilson and Alan Beauchamp of Cardigan Roads Policing Unit to carry out a ‘Read Your Speed’ operation in the 20mph zone outside the school.
They used a device which measures the speed of vehicles and displays it back to the driver to identify those travelling over the limit, and those caught were quizzed by the pupils about their speed and it’s risks.
The GoSafe campaign runs from the October 5-17 and aims to raise awareness of the importance of these 20mph zones for the safety of everyone.
Insp Christina Fraser of Dyfed Powys Police said: “It is vitally important for drivers to understand that 20mph zones are there for a reason, and that failure to keep to the limit puts children at unnecessary risk. Our officers are pleased to support this campaign and work with local schools to help get the message out to drivers.”
Mr Gethin Richards, Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Cilgerran said: “This has been an excellent opportunity for the children to work with the Police in the community and to help raise awareness and promote the safety of everyone in and around the school”.
