VILLAGERS in Aberporth and area are being asked for their opinion over proposed safety measures at the beach car park.

In the past ten years, two cars have gone over the edge of the car park, crashing onto the beach below. Now car park owners the village hall committee have raised the possibility of installing bollards or boulders to prevent such accidents happening again.

But at the village hall AGM this week, several residents voiced opposition to the plans, saying it was over-reaction to what were freak accidents. They also raised concerns that any work on the car park would be costly and unsightly.

However some residents backed the idea of safety measures, saying that such accidents could have had fatal consequences if people had been on the beach at the time.

Village hall chairman Dai Ogilvie said: “The village hall is willing to listen”.

Now villagers will be asked via social media and through forms in local shops and the Ship Inn pub what their views are – whether they back the installation of boulders, bollards or prefer the status quo option of doing nothing.

A tentative option of a motorway style crash barrier has been thrown out.

Local residents are urged to email their opinion to village hall secretary Annie Oakley on avha.oakley@btinternet.com before the next village hall meeting on March 3.
