NEWSQUEST, the company that owns the Tivy-Side Advertiser, has reaffirmed its commitment to Cardigan as the newspaper looks to celebrate its 150th anniversary.

Advances in telecommunications and the adoption of a centralised editorial system mean however that the company is to close its Cardigan office on Friday, February 19.

As a result of the change, Tivy-Side reporters will divide their time between Cardigan and the company’s west Wales editorial hub at Haverfordwest.

The Tivy-Side has been produced and edited in Haverfordwest for more than 12 months.

“Improvements in technology and Newsquest’s adoption of the Knowledge editorial system mean the reporters’ time will be more efficiently utilised from the company’s offices in Haverfordwest,” said new Tivy-Side editor Steve Adams.

“By being based at the editorial hub, the Tivy reporters will enjoy the support of colleagues and be able to play a far greater role in the production of the Tivy-Side throughout the entire editorial process.

“They will continue to attend meetings and cover stories on the ground in Cardigan and the surrounding area.

“The Tivy-Side Advertiser has served the people of Cardigan with distinction for almost 150 years and will continue to play a central role in town life.

“The Tivy-Side remains the first place to turn for the news in Cardigan and beyond.”

Newsquest will continue to operate a drop-off point for local and community news in Cardigan and reporters remain available to meet residents and businesspeople to discuss news stories.
