AN OLD public house in Cardigan town centre, which ceased trading in February, is to re-open.

After the Saddlers Arms in High Street closed its doors owners Marston’s Brewery of Wolverhampton put a notice in a window announcing that the lease had been surrendered and the locks changed.

At the time it was reported that the previous licensee had retired from the licensing trade and the future of one of the most established watering holes in the area was uncertain.

There has been much speculation with a report that an existing licensee is taking over as an addition to his present pub.

This week Marston’s, which has more than 1700 licensed premises in the UK and is the world’s largest brewer of cask ales, confirmed plans to re-open.

A spokesperson told the Tivy-Side “We are taking on repair work which we hope to complete shortly.

“We are currently recruiting for a licensee and it is proposed to open in a matter of weeks rather than months.

“The new licensee is not yet in place but hopefully we will have everything sorted out and the Saddlers Arms back in business before the end of May,” said the spokesperson.
