A 42-YEAR-OLD man was killed after the car he was driving went over the cliff at Mwnt on Friday evening, Dyfed-Powys Police has confirmed.

Earlier reports that the driver, from North Wales, had been rescued from the sea and taken to the hospital by a search and rescue were incorrect.

Speaking on Sunday morning, a police spokesman said officers were called to the scene at 7.50pm on Friday.

“It was reported a car had left a field and had come to rest at the bottom of the cliff,” said the spokesman.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters and a search and rescue helicopter from St Athan, were called.

Gwbert coastguard and Cardigan rescue teams were also deployed - along with both Cardigan lifeboats.

Five Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service engines were also sent to the scene but were not required.

The driver was found dead at the scene.

He has not been named and no further details of his identity are being released at the time, the spokesman said.

The dead man’s family has been informed.
