REIGNING champions Cardigan have retained the Ceredigion Bowling Association division one title with one game to spare.

They produced another impressive performance in springing an 87-57 win over New Quay, to soar 19 points clear of rivals Lampeter at the top of the table.

Lampeter, who were in contention for much of the season, will welcome Cardigan to the Rookery in the final game tomorrow (Wednesday) in what might have been a title decider.

The two rivals have already met twice this season, in a league encounter and in the Carruthers Shield, with Brian Williams and team-mates coming out on top on each occasion.

Against New Quay, Cardigan skip Mike Newcombe won by 10 shots, Paul Monders won by 11 shots, Kevin James emerged a winner by 10 shots and Chris Rogers lost by a shot.

Lampeter won their match at Aberaeron 90-75, with winning rinks skipped by Paul Edwards, Steve Entwistle, Hari Butten and Nick Randell.
