ADDITIONAL signage will be erected in Penparc after safety concerns were raised over traffic speeds through the village.

If follows residents' concerns over traffic travelling along the main A487 road, especially near the Cae Gwyrdd playing area.

Additional signage will now be installed by the Trunk Road Agency to denote the play area and alert traffic on possible pedestrian presence.

For consideration, a formal crossing has also been requested.

As well as this, through the support of Go Safe and Dyfed Powys Police officers from the Cardigan area, a Community Speedwatch team has been established.

Having undergone training in road safety and use of the equipment, the team have been active at random times at designated and risk assessed locations along the road.

Cllr Clive Davies, who established the group, said: “I would like to thank Melanie, Clive, Steve, Nichola and Joe for giving up their time to undertake the training and carrying out the speed checks.

"As one of the team myself, during our time conducting the speed, the impact was noticeable.

"Any vehicle recorded over the limit is reported to a central system we have access to."

Team member Melanie Davies said: “As a resident living along this road, I’m happy to contribute to this road safety initiative in our community.

"I have found it’s certainly effective each time we are out, hopefully with us being present, it will act as a reminder to drivers going about their day to watch their speed."

Cllr Davies said he had also started to get some interest in the Llechryd Community.

"Hopefully with sufficient people, a community speedwatch team could be established there also," he added.

A spokesperson for GoSafe said: "The strategic aim of GoSafe is to make people safer on Welsh roads by reducing casualties and saving lives.

"The partnership is responsible for red light and speed camera enforcement, but reducing casualties is not just about enforcing the law."

He added: "If you have concerns about speeding in your community please check our camera search area on our website to see if we already visit your community.

"If your area is not currently receiving enforcement please forward your concerns to the relevant Police Force Coordinator (in Mid and South Wales)."
