PATIENTS leaving hospital will be able to leave earlier and feel more confident in their mobility after donations from the caring public allowed the purchase of walking frames.

Hywel Dda Health Charities has used donations from the public to buy six walking frames for patients to use on the Rhiannon ward at Bronglais Hospital.

The frames will allow patients to be up and about on their feet earlier than they would have been, which will help with reducing the risk of falls, promote mobility and increase their independence.

These factors mean that the patients will be able to be discharged quicker and return home earlier.

Mari Davies, lead physiotherapist for the acute and community physio team in Ceredigion said: “The walking aids are used by patients to reduce the risk of falls and promote mobility.

“The frames help post-operative surgical patients and orthopaedic patients to get up and increase their independence, helping with a quicker discharge home.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
