PEOPLE living with dementia and their carers will be able to get information and support in the Aeron Valley later this year.

The Aeron Valley Wellbeing Hub will be running a dementia-based theme at Pennant Community Centre during June.

Alexander Holloway came up with the idea to help provide information, ideas and contacts to help support individuals living with dementia and their carers.

Alexander has completed training with the charity Playlist for Life, which helps to bring the power of personal music to people living with dementia.

There is a Playlist for Life help point at Pennant Community Centre. Alexander will be hosting the first event at the centre on Monday, June 12 between 7.30pm and 9pm.

The events will be informal and there will be tea, coffee and biscuits for sale.

Alexander also hosts weekly seated dance sessions at the community centre on Mondays at 10am and at local care homes in the area.

These are part of his Dance Your Ability therapeutic movement training which brings group and self-led movement and dance programs to people of all ages and abilities including at-risk youth, mixed abilities, people living with: dementia, Parkinson’s, cancer, addictions, in recovery and trauma survivors.

It was during these sessions that he realised the effect of music. Alexander said: “I observe so much joy and laughter when a familiar song comes on, attendees begin singing along, sharing memories linked to the songs and this improves their wellbeing, especially for sufferers of dementia.
