YUM Yum Sweets are back!

The much-loved Cardigan sweetshop re-opened its doors on Saturday, January 27 to the visible delight of shoppers with a sweet tooth.

And town mayor Cllr Sian Maehrlein and husband and consort David were at the front of the queue to sample some of the Pendre store’s celebrated confectionary as it officially came back into business.

Yum Yum became a must-visit for many on first opening its doors back in 2001.

However, there were howls of anguish on social media when the business many customers said reminded them of the type of ‘old-fashioned’ sweetshops from their childhood closed its doors last September.

“What an adventure we have had here at Yum Yum Sweets,” ran a farewell Facebook post which Yum Yum described as ‘bittersweet’.

“It’s amazing how our journey began with small idea around the family dinner table to open a sweet shop in Cardigan back in 2001 - look how far we have come.

“We were told we were daft to open a sweet shop but we pushed through regardless. The popularity showed when we outgrew out first premises at 10a Pendre and moved to our current location 6 Pendre.

“We started to grow our products with the help of you all - a notebook left on the counter for you to request your favourites.

“We have gained the best and most loyal local and afar customers who make sure to visit ‘the sweet shop’ on their holidays to the area.

“It has now come to the bittersweet end to our three generation family run sweet shop.

“Thank you again to everyone who has supported us on our journey and a massive thank you to all the staff who have helped us along the way…we couldn’t have done this without you.”

But Yum Yum has now been officially re-opened with a new proprietor behind the counter, Tasha Osinga.

The daughter of Tracey Smart, of Coracle Fish and Chips in Llechryd, she is the granddaughter of the Osingas, who ran the sweetship for many years.
