A Pembrokeshire councillor will stand for the Welsh Conservatives in the forthcoming general election.

Pembrokeshire County Councillor Aled Thomas has been selected to fight for the new Ceredigion Preseli seat.

Cllr Thomas, who has keen interests in agriculture and tourism, says he is deeply concerned about Welsh policies hindering growth.

He said: "Agriculture in Wales is at a fragile turning point.

"Welsh Labour government policy brought in jointly with Plaid Cymru in the cooperation agreement is causing farmers to have sleepless nights, they are very worried about the future.

"Welsh Labour have prioritised vanity over sanity and that must change."

He also shared concerns over tourism taxation reducing visitor numbers.

Cllr Thomas said: "We need policies that help boost the local economy, not hold it back."

He advocates for a high-quality, resource-rich education, expressing concerns regarding the future of sixth forms and the new curriculum in Wales.

He said: "Having the resources to allow people to re-skill and re-train is also vital to keep our economy running and growing, but fears for the future of sixth forms in Ceredigion coupled with the damaging new curriculum for Wales are leaving Ceredigion and North Pembrokeshire pupils at a disadvantage."
