Jamie Lewis of Cardigan was defeated 3-1 in sets by number six seed and two-time semi-finalist James Wade in the William Hill PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in London on Sunday.

It was a spirited showing from the 23-year-old Welshman in averaging almost 88, hitting three 180’s and had impressive 141 and 125 checkouts.

He levelled the match at 1-1 and took the first leg of the third set against the darts before Wade turned on the style in taking six legs on the trot to power into the second round.

Afterwards 31-year-old Wade said “It was a tough match against Jamie who obviously has a big future in the sport and I’m glad to be in the second round.”

Taking part in his third championship Lewis pocketed £8,000 as a first round loser.
