LLANDYSUL bounced back to form and notched a second victory in six outings when winning by four wickets against Maesteg Celtic in the South Wales Cricket Association Division One at Tir-Dref.

Seven days previously the Teifisiders came unstuck after being forced to field an understrength line-up but with a strong side the batting improved significantly as they successfully chased a more than useful total of 225 posted by the visitors.

The 26 points gained by Darrel Griffiths and team-mates took them out of the relegation zone into sixth but such is the situation in the top flight that they are only nine points clear of bottom of the pile Swansea Civil Service.

With skipper Morgan Hodges (44) and Gareth Hopkins, son of ex-Glamorgan opener John Hopkins hitting 12 boundaries in an innings of 84 Celtic appeared on course for a very big total.

But skipper Griffiths turned to off-spinner Llew Hughes who responded with an inspired spell which brought him six wickets for 34 runs in eight overs and the visitors were restricted to 225 in their allotted 50 overs.

Rising teenage star Ieuan Paske who has recently been part of the Wales Under 17 squad showed his undoubted potential as he scored freely all round the wicket in an unbeaten innings of 89.

He was given good support from opener Gary Williams (29) while wicketkeeper Llyr Morris swung matters the way of the home side with a cameo unbeaten 27 and Llandysul reached the target with two balls to spare.
