MANY people half his age would baulk at the prospect of running a half-marathon, but 75-year-old Bernard Bunny Davies of Cardigan recently completed the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon.

Retired RAE Aberporth fireman Bunny of North Road took up running as a hobby 15 years ago, completing a large number of full and half marathons and raising more than £10,000 through sponsorship for various worthy causes.

A former talented footballer, the fit pensioner still takes part in five-a-side competitions at Cardigan Leisure Centre.

When his mother-in-law Megan Evans of Williams Terrace, Cardigan died of a heart attack earlier this year and his wife Julia developed a heart problem Bunny decided to run the 13.1 mile Cardiff race in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Bunny and Julia handed over a jumbo-sized cheque for £1,005 to retired paramedic Peter Barker who formed the Cardigan branch of the charity 28 years ago and has been its chairman ever since.

Bunny said “I’d like to thank everyone who supported me for their generous response.”
