THE 2015-2016 Ceredigion Netball League is now underway with all matches being played in the central venue of Aberaeron on Wednesday evenings.

With the late withdrawal of another team and increasing membership for Cardigan Netball Club, this season, Cardigan have been able to enter a third team into the local league alongside teams from Aberystwyth and Pontrhydfendigaid/Tregaron.

The season began in early October with an umpire training course. Arabella Errington, Charlotte Webster, Chloe Bowen, Chloe Miles, Lleucu Mains, Ruth Mansfield and Vicky Reed were all successful in completing the course for Cardigan.

June Blake and Lisa Marie Hassall completed the course for Bont Blades in addition to students from local universities.

Games then started on October 21, with an opening win for Cardigan Diamonds 44-13 against Cardigan Pearls development team and Cardigan Aces winning with a score line of 41-12 against Bont Blades.

Nominated players on the evening were Tam Balmer (Diamonds), Carys Evans (Pearls), Lucy Williams (Aces) and Lisa Marie Hassall (Bont).

October 28 was an evening for Aberystwyth University to begin their league campaign.

Aber Uni 3 played Cardigan Pearls in a very close match.

The Cardigan team were ahead after the first quarter (7-4), fairly even 2nd and 3rd quarter but eventually losing by one goal for a final score of 21-20.

Nominated for Cardigan was young goal attack Dionne Thomas.

The second game of the evening was a north of the county affair. Aber Uni 4 against Bont Blades, half time score of 14-9 to Aberystwyth but a final score line of 30-18 (nominated players Emma Gibson for Aber Uni and Lisa Marie Hassall for Bont).

Beginning of November brought about a clash of the titans between Cardigan’s Diamond and Aces teams.

Every quarter was a goal by goal affair (first quarter 9-7 to the Aces, 17-15 at half time, 26-23 third quarter and a final score of 33-32, a nail biting win for the Aces).

Nominated once again was Tam Balmer for the Diamonds and Steff Davies for the Aces.

All players played exceptionally well with the ball travelling frantically from one end of the court to the other. Sarah Jones (goal shooter for the Aces) kept the scoring ticking steadily, whilst defensive players Ellie Rose and Vicky Reed defended well for the Diamonds and managed to get the ball down court to shooters Chloe Miles and Bev Sime to keep both teams within one goal.

Next week will see Cardigan Pearls playing Bont Blades and Cardigan Diamonds against Aberystwyth University 4.
