An exciting run-in is in prospect in the Costcutter League Division One title race with leaders Newcastle Emlyn, Bargod Rangers, Lampeter Town and reigning champions Cardigan Town all in contention.

Emlyn came out on top 3-2 in the table-topping clash with neighbours Rangers at Parc Emlyn, Lampeter stayed in the mix with a thumping 17-1 win over doomed Pencader while Cardigan were held to a draw at New Quay leaving the race wide open.

Rangers were woefully understrength through the unavailability of half a dozen or so regulars but those on duty battled for everything throughout and were in front through goals by leading marksman Robbie Jenkins who netted a real corker and Oliver Evans.

Emlyn fought back with goals by Jake Harris and Oscar Higgins and got the winner through skipper and prolific scorer Peter Almond.

Cardigan threw away two points in a 1-1 draw at Parc Arthur where the visitors dominated virtually throughout but were guilty of missing chances galore

Young Tomos Toft put the Magpies ahead with a stunning 25-yard volley but in race Seasiders attack the ball rebounded from the crossbar to Craig Richardson who made no mistake to give his side an unlikely share of the spoils.

Emlyn and Cardigan go head-to-head at Parc Emlyn tonight and the latter are set to host the Reds and Bargod before the end of the season.

It could prove unwise to write off Lampeter Town after a number of recent successes the latest a demotion of hapless Pencader at North Road.

A fortnight or so ago shrewd Lampeter boss Terry Jones told his charges they had games in hand, nothing to lose, and enjoy their football.

His advice has paid off handsomely as the mid county side deliver a challenge and with a home game against Newcastle Emlyn and a trip to Cardigan on the horizon who knows what could happen.

As the title contenders swept aside the Reds experienced strikers Mark Rivers and incomer Robert Slawkowski were on target four times, Luke Lovell and Gethin Hunter both hit a hat-trick and the other scorers were Joe Jenkins and Szymon Konwiak who bagged a brace apiece.

St Dogmaels kept on track for a top four finish by handing out a six-of-the-best caning to lowly Felinfach at School Field.

For the dominant Saints veteran former manager and local Seine fisherman Steve Jerry Williams was outstanding in a central defensive role and capped his performance near the end as he leaped like salmon in the nearby Teifi to power home a header.

The other home goals came via Rhys Jones, Justin Williams, Tom Phillips, Jason Williams and Adam Williams.

Llandysul remain in fifth after goals by Scott Thomas and Dan Jones saw off the challenge of visitors Crannog.
