Llandysul fell just short in a run chase against Dafen in Llanelli on the opening day in Division One of the South Wales Cricket Association.

Having been put in Dafen went along steadily with opener Mathew Evans contributing 25 but it was when Jamie Mansel at first wicket down came to the middle that the fireworks began.

The right-hander scored all round the wicket in a stunning innings of 72 off 86 balls which included ten fours and two towering sixes before being run out by Llewelyn Hughes.

Middle order batsman Gareth Hughes clouted four boundaries in a fine knock of 38 before being caught by Ieuan Paske off Llewelyn Hughes and the innings closed on 215-8 in 50 overs.

Medium pacer Llewelyn Hughes picked up three wickets but his ten overs went for 64 runs while Ieuan Paske was far more economical his ten overs which included three maidens costing just 21 runs and he picked up a wicket.

In the Llandysul reply Rhydian Harries was caught by Jonathan Griffiths off Mathew Donoghue for five when the score was 12 but his opening partner Gary Williams set about the bowling with gusto.

Williams stroked ten fours and hoisted two sixes in his 76 off 102 balls before being caught by Gethin Long off Philip George.

Skipper Darrel Griffiths at number six and Carwyn Evans at no 7 were uneaten on 25 and 22 respectively as the visitors fell 23 short in the run chase on 192-5.

Dafen banked 15 points and there were ten points for Llandysul.
