After an arduous season disrupted by adverse weather the Costcutter League Division One title race is set for a thrilling finale this week.

As it stands leaders Lampeter Town are two points clear of Llandysul who ended the hopes of Bargod Rangers with a 3-0 win at Parc Puw on Saturday.

The title race also involves reigning champions Cardigan Town, currently four points adrift but with two games in hand on the pacesetters.

Steve Blackford and colleagues, who have played three games a week since the start of April, host Bargod Rangers tonight, visit Llandysul 48 hours later and on Saturday take on the leaders, a game that could be a title decider and attract a bumper crowd to King George V Playing Field .

Llandysul must win on Thursday and hope Cardigan beat Lampeter in the final showdown. But the plain fact is that if the Magpies come out on top in two of the games it will be sufficient to retain the title.

Looking forward to the final week Town manager Seamus Doherty said “I honestly believed the title had gone because of fixtures coming thick and fast but despite obviously feeling the strain the lads have stuck to the task.

“We’ll give it all we’ve got again this week – we can’t do more than that,” he said.

The 5-1 win at Pencader on Saturday came at a huge cost for Town who lost 17-year-old front-runner Tomos Toft with a serious foot injury and he will not take any part in the remaining games.

Pencader, with goalkeeper Chris Stevens outstanding, were in contention for an hour before the visitors pulled clear.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes when Town goalkeeper Casey Walters produced a sensational save to deny Craig Gordon, the visitors pulled clear.

Midfielder Iestyn Evans gave Cardigan the lead with a header at a corner but straight from the kick off Ashley Summers with a well-taken goal brought the Reds level.

As Town took over in the latter stages classy striker Liam Doherty netted a hat-trick and Dylan Davies made it a nap hand.

Despite being without half a dozen or so regulars Llandysul produced the goods at Parc Puw where Simon Davies gave them an interval lead. The same player doubled his tally during the second period and Adrian Hazelby was also on target.
