Llandysul beat Bronwydd

An improvement on an encouraging opening performance in Division One of the South Wales Cricket Association led to Llandysul springing a three-wicket win over visitors Bronwydd and picking up 26 points.

Hero for the Teifisiders was newcomer Huw Williams, brother of Gary who was unavailable for the game. The former Llangennech opener made some delightful strokes in a superb innings of 95 which included 14 boundaries.

After winning the toss skipper Darrel Griffiths decided to field first, a decision that looked to have backfired as James Cale and Oliver Furneaux shared an opening stand of 89 before the latter fell for 34.

Cale made 61 which included ten boundaries before being caught and bowled by Ieuan Paske, but then Arfon Jones got among the wickets, the medium-pacer snapping 4-36 in ten overs as the visitors were dismissed for 179.

The homesters got off to a poor start when Rhydian Harries was clean bowled by David Dunfee without bothering the scorers but his opening partner Williams dominated and guided his side to victory.

Lower down the order skipper Griffiths contributed 19 and Carwyn Evans at number seven made 17 as the target was reached for the loss of seven wickets in 48 overs.

Llandysul Seconds couldn’t emulate their seniors as they fell to a two-wicket defeat against Llandarcy in Division Five.
