LLECHRYD sit proudly on top of Division Three in the Pembrokeshire Cricket League after a comprehensive win over previous leaders Neyland 2nds.

Having been put in the visitors struggled from the word go as opening bowlers John Curran and Peter Betterley bowled line and length and were backed up by sharp ground fielding.

Former Llechryd skipper Graham Keen now in the Neyland ranks did not have a happy return to his former Castle Malgwyn stamping ground – he was clean bowled by Curran without bothering the scorers.

Curran returned figures of 3-15, Betterley snapped two wickets for just seven runs in nine overs and first change Mike Godfrey in his first game for the Teifisiders picked up four wickets.

Lyn Rees (27) made a valiant effort to post a respectable total but the visitors were dismissed for a paltry total of 83.

In reply Llechryd lost Mike Carter early but 14-year-old Tomos Davies got his head down in reaching double figures with Curran also making steady progress.

Newcomer Godfrey carried on where he left off with the ball in making 17 and guiding his side to victory.

In the fourth division Llechryd 2nds clung on for a draw at Hundleton where the homesters posted an imposing 208 for six and picked up 24 points.

Opener Jonathan Williams was the star of the show for Hundleton as he scored heavily in making 94 and was given support from John Tysoe and Paul Fox.

Paul Beasley (43) and Mark Newell 42 made their mark in the visitors’ reply but at the end of the allotted overs they were hanging on at 112-9.

There are fears for the future of Crymych Cricket Club after being forced to call off a third game through being unable to raise a team in Division Three.

The Preselimen struggled to put out two teams last season and disbanded the seconds before the start of this season.

A club spokesman said it was hoped players would rally round to fulfil future fixtures.
