A FIVE-WICKET win over bottom of the pile Maesteg Celtic at Tyr-Dref gave Llandysul a third win from eight starts and consolidated fourth place in Division One of the South Wales Association.

Electing to bat the visitors got off to a disappointing start when Mathew Rogers was caught by Carwyn Evans off Rhydian Harries for a duck but his opening partner Nick Poole (25)and Gareth Hopkins (18) made valuable contributions while Daniel Miller in the middle order was unbeaten on 37 and hit four boundaries.

Iestyn Evans snapped two wickets for 18 runs in ten overs, five of which were maidens and Harries bowled two maidens in returning figures of 2-20 in ten overs.

The total of 144-6 off the allotted 50 overs was never going to be enough and so it proved as the Teifisiders got the runs for the loss of five wickets despite suffering a few wobbles.

After his bowling heroics Rhydian Harries also excelled with the bat, the former Ammanford opener producing some delightful strokes as he punished anything loose in a brilliant unbeaten 82 with seven fours and three towering sixes off 125 balls.

Harries lost opening partner Tom Harries who was caught by Nick Poole off Glen Lawler for seven and when Iestyn evans went for four, Ieuan Paske was bowled by Lawler for 0 and Carwyn Evans fell lbw to the same bowler also without troubling the scorers there were a few anxious faces in the home ranks.

But Ben Edkins clouted three boundaries in a fine innings of 39 to banish Celtic hopes and the target was reached for the loss of five wickets in the 40th over.

Medium-pacer Lawler (3-25) was best of the visiting bowlers.
