ALTHOUGH on course to retain a first division spot in the South Wales Cricket Association sixth in the table Llandysul were no match for second-placed Briton Ferry Steel who won by nine wickets at The Graig.

A total of 161-6 in 50 overs never looked likely to be enough to secure victory over high flyers Steel who knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket in 31 overs and banked 24 points.

Llandysul did not get the start they wanted as they lost opener Meurig Jones for three and Ieuan Paske for nought but thankfully for the visitors in-form opener Rhydian Harries got his head down and punished anything loose.

The former Wales junior and Ammanford right-hander stroked nine fours in making 73 in 135 balls before being run out.

After the inauspicious start skipper Darrel Griffiths (31) and Carwyn Evans (28) in the middle order steadied the ship but after 50 overs the total looked rather vulnerable.

Medium-pacer Daniel Williams took three wickets in ten overs and there was a wicket apiece for Steve Devonald, Rhys Norgrove and Daryl Phillips.

In the reply Steel lost Lee Rhys Williams who was bowled by Arfon Jones for a single with the swcore on 12, but then things swung the way of the homesters thanks to opener Gareth Davies and Craig Evans at first wicket down.

Davies hit seven fours and two sixes in his 69 while Evans was in devastating form in making 91 which included 16 boundaries in 70 balls that saw his side to a comfortable win.

Llandysul 2nds fared no better than the senior side as they went down to a ten-wicket defeat against their Briton Ferry Steel counterparts in Division Five in the Teifi Valley.

The homesters were dismissed for 108 in the 39th over and picked up two points while the visitors made 109 without loss in 10.5 overs and banked 20 points.
