A SOLID team performance in springing a seven-wicket win at Herbrandston saw Llechryd soar 19 points clear at the head of affairs in Division Three of the Pembrokeshire League.

And the Teifisiders received another boost as joint leaders Saundersfoot were defeated by Haverfordwest 3rds who leapfrogged their rivals into second.

Without a crop of unavailable regulars including skipper John Curran the Teifi Valley club experienced difficulty fielding two teams - the seconds hosted their Narberth counterparts at Castle Malgwyn.

Batting first the South Pembrokeshire coastal villagers struggled from the word go in misty conditions that played into the hands of Anthony Fletcher.

Bowling line and length the slow-medium bowler returned figures of 5-42 while Michael Godfrey picked up three wickets and there was one for Adam Gilbert.

Opener Jack Nicholas was the mainstay for the homesters with a fine innings of 49 which included five boundaries and he was supported by Ali Ouzman (19) and Robert Hood (18) but the remainder of the batsmen found it tough going.

The total of 122 did not appear defendable and so it proved as the visitors knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets and banked 29 points.

Classy opening batsman Ben Harris, making a rare appearance for the Teifi Valley side, led the reply scoring all round the wicket in carrying his bat for a superb innings of 66 which included eight boundaries.

Llechryd will be out to continue the good work this Saturday when sixth in the table Lawrenny 2nds are the visitors.

At the other end of the table low-lying mist in the Preseli area caused the Crymych versus Neyland 2nds game at Glandy Cross to be called off.

A brilliant knock of 100 by veteran opener Dewi Davies was the highlight as Llechryd 2nds earned a draw against Narberth 2nds in Division

Four.

Davies was given excellent support from his son Tomos who made 30 while for the visitors Huw Simpkins was unbeaten on 77 and Michael Williams made 66.

Narberth posted 191-1 and at the close Llechryd were 170-7.
