CARDIGAN go in search of further glory in the Welsh Bowling Association Carruthers Shield on Saturday when visiting the Neath Port Talbot borough to take on village club Skewen for a place in the last eight.

After coming through the Ceredigion group stages unscathed Paul Monders and colleagues sprang a 78-71 win over Parc y Dre in Llanelli and in the second round won by eight shots at home against another village club Llanbradach near Caerphilly.

Skewen, who play in the Neath League and are past winners of the Carruthers roared to a 24-shot win at Welshpool in the first round and were forced to pull out all the stops in round two before winning 76-75 at home against St Julians of Newport Gwent.
