MORE than 70 people turned out to take part in a special competition at Newport Links Golf Club in memory of former member Steve Hodges.

who passed away in 2015 at the age of 57.

Popular golfer Steve died in 2015 at the age of 57. Originally from Yorkshire, he lived in Cilgerran and worked in Aberystwyth hospital.

He was a very keen golfer and played to a low handicap. He was club captain in 2014 and was also a keen fisherman.

A cub spokesman said: "With over 70 people playing it reflected on how popular Steve was within the community.

"The club would like to thank the many businesses from Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire who sponsored the event. Also to all the members of Newport Links and from other golf clubs who supported the day."

A total of £2,500 was raised for Ty Bryngwyn Hospice in Llanelli, where Steve was looked after in his final days.

The winners of the Alliance Competition were Phil Johns, Jennifer Johns, Martin Rosser and Lauren Rosser with 102 points.

In second place with 96 points were Maria Ferguson, Barbara Evans, Niki Oates and Liz Bowen and beaten on the back 9 also with 96 points were Richard Bellars, Gerry Carroll, Celia Bartlett and Ellie Evans.

Steve's wife and family travelled from Yorkshire to attend the event.
