Nap hand for Llandysul

COMPLETING a nap hand of victories with an emphatic 5-0 win at St Dogmaels saw Llandysul maintain a one hundred per cent record in the Costcutter League Division One.

The Swallows have netted 23 goals and conceded just four in their first five outings and never looked like slipping up at School Field.

It was little wonder that manager Chris 'Coco' Davies was again jubilant by his team's performance and although these are early days it is already clear that someone will have to produce something special to halt their charge.

"During my playing days I never won at St Dogmaels and not many teams do that. But we played well today and I was really pleased," said the boss.

Playing up the slope during the opening 45 minutes, Saints started at a frenetic pace but once the visitors settled and got their passing game

together it was clear there could be only one result.

The leaders went ahead when Scott Thomas released lighting fast striker Simon Davies who went past a would-be tackler and tucked the ball home.

It was 2-0 before half time through a quality strike by influential midfielder Adrian Hazzelby who took a pass from Lewis Jones and fired a

30-yarder into the top corner.

The game was a personal triumph for Hazzelby who netted a further two goals during the second period.

There were those who felt second in the table Lampeter Town could face a stern test against Crannog at the Urdd Centre but in the event the North Road high-flyers sprang a 5-0 win to stay on the shirt-tails of pacesetters Llandysul.

With a number of players making themselves available in recent weeks, manager Terry Jones has a talented squad at his disposal and Town appear capable of figuring prominently in the roll of honour at the end of the term.

The visitors led by a solitary goal at the interval thanks to Roger Slawkowski and doubled the advantage early in the second half when Szymon Konwiak finished clinically.

Christy Gale put Lampeter out of sight with a well-taken goal following a good build-up, Slawkowski made it 4-0 and Gethin Hunter rounded off the scoring.

Newcastle Emlyn appear to be getting things together under management duo Gethin 'Nant' Davies and Owain Thomas, the Reds completing back-to-back successes with a 5-0 win over New Quay at Parc Arthur.

To their credit the Seasiders never gave up and battled for everything but they were never in the hunt and it all became a bit of a stroll for the visitors long before the final whistle.

Holding midfielder John Curran put Emlyn ahead, prolific marksman Peter Almond doubled the advantage and winger Daniel Davies hit a third goal before half time.

Substitute midfielder Adam Williams got goal number four midway through the second period and fullback Mathew Goodman made it a nap hand.

Heads were turned when the scoreline filtered through from Drefach Felindre where bottom of the pile Bargod Rangers without a point held champions Cardigan Town to a 1-1 draw at Parc Puw.

Rangers lost half a dozen or so of last season's squad to other clubs but a number of players are giving their allegiance and after Saturday there appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

A crop of Rangers players turned in quality performances, none more so than midfielder Danny Williams, the former Llandysul midfielder giving his skills an airing and deservedly voted man of the match.

Bargod very nearly pulled off a surprise win when awarded a penalty in injury time but Williams could not crown a great performance by netting the winner as he fired straight at Woodhead.

Town also missed a penalty when midfield general Iestyn Evans blasted over from the spot midway through the first half.

Young winger Tomos Toft put the visitors in front during the opening 45 minutes when picking his spot from the edge of the penalty area.

Midfielder Llew Jones squared matters for the homesters and after that the result could have gone either way with a draw perhaps a fair outcome.

As promoted Dewi Stars sprang a 4-0 win over Aberaeron Reserves at Llanddewi attacking livewire Steffan Owens was the star of the show with a well-taken hat-trick and the other marksman was Deian Williams.
